It was the last night of my trip in Wales, and Nellie, Anthony and I were at the bar of our hotel having some drinks when a couple came by and sat next to us. It was about 1:30am in the morning, and the couple had gotten married in the hotel just hours before and had just bid their goodbyes to their last guest. The groom had clearly drank a lot and kept talking to us and was asking us about our travels, while the bride, who was visibly tired and getting increasingly annoyed, kept telling her husband that she wanted to go back to the room. The groom also repeatedly insisted he wanted another pint of beer despite his wife’s assurance that the hotel had prepared a bottle of champagne for their private consumption back in their room. The three of us were put in a spot and did not quite know what to do. Nellie was trying hard to chase the groom up, but he was probably to drunk to even notice his wife’s mood and Nellie’s persistence. After about a good 10 minutes, the groom finally relented and went up, of course, without first getting another pint of beer.
Two hours later, I return to my room and see the groom sitting cross-legged along the corridor. I was fairly certain it was him and that I was not mistaken. Five minutes later, I went to check on him again, and saw him in a completely wasted state, sprawled on the ground. I considered telling the night porter whom we had just made friends with just moments ago, but decided that the groom deserved it for his actions in the bar. On hindsight, it was a little mean to leave him there like that. I’m not sure what exactly transpired between husband and wife, but imagine if he had been kicked out of his own room on his wedding night. All I can say is, good luck to him.

Every photograph we take contains a story, but we often do not spend enough time sharing that story with others. Hence, Foto Friday was born to give some recognition to these forgotten photographs and the memories they hold. Taken over many trips (2004-present) using the author’s crappy cameras and whatever minimal photography skills she has, these photographs serve to give you a little insight into the author’s travels. And if you haven’t realised by now, they’ll be out on Fridays.
